UFC 84: Ortiz training camp for Machida

April 30, 2008 By: MMAVu Category: Dana White, Lyoto Machida, Tito Ortiz, UFC 84

Here’s a snip of Tito Ortiz training for his UFC 84 bout with Lyoto “the Dragon” Machida.  Ortiz has gone on the record many times that this will be his last fight for the UFC.  He feels underpaid, under appreciated, and disrespected by the UFC, namely by Dana White.  Judging by his sprawling estate, Tito seems to be doing quite well for himself.

The UFC doesn’t feel Ortiz is worth it, he’s a big name, but he hasn’t done much or beaten any big names lately.  In fact, since 2002, Tito has beaten Ken Shamrock 3 times, Patrick Cote (who was a late replacement and a middleweight), Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin all be close decision.

A few thoughts on the clip:  Does anyone else think Forrest Gump could outrun Tito?  It’s a training camp clip, so why does he spend the first 1:45 of the 2:16 clip selling (or should I say pimping) himself?  Did anyone catch his PIN code?

UFC 85: Jonathan Goulet vs Paul Kelly

April 30, 2008 By: MMAVu Category: Jonathan Goulet, Paul Kelly, UFC 85

jonathangoulet 300x262 UFC 85: Jonathan Goulet vs Paul KellyTwo weeks removed from his Fight of the Night performance against a game Kuniyoshi Hironaka at UFC 83, Jonathan “the Road Warrior” Goulet (son of crooner Robert…just kidding) has agreed to take on England’s Paul Kelly at UFC 85 in London, England. Goulet will go from one extreme to the other, from UFC 83 where he was the hometown favorite, to the enemy when he takes on the UK’s Paul Kelly. Goulet will be in tough against the stocky Kelly, a tenacious scrapper.

Goulet, who looks like he is George St. Pierre’s brother from another mother, is currently on a three fight win streak and will look to climb the crowded welterweight division. While a good technical striker, he can get careless at times and is average at best defending the take down and fighting from his back. Kelly took his last opponent Paul Taylor down at will in his last fight and will look to do the same against Goulet. Perhaps St. Pierre can teach his teammate some take down defense!
