Rich Franklin ponders move to 205lbs
Former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich “Ace” Frankin is pondering a move to Light Heavyweight according to his Manager, Monte Cox. They’re currently mulling over the move because Franklin has fought almost all of the top contenders in the division, and no one, including Cox, wants to see Silva/Franklin 3 at this time. There are but a few middleweights Franklin could fight, but if he did beat them, he would just knock them down the ladder and rob them of a title shot, and Franklin would just put himself back in line for a third shot at Silva…which isn’t very interesting at this juncture. Franklin actually competed for the first half of his career at 205lbs, losing only once, to the STILL undefeated Lyoto Machida back in 2004.
The move to 205lbs would create lots of new an exciting match ups such as Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva and Rampage Jackson. I think the true motivation for this move is to avoid the one-man wrecking machine, Anderson “Spider” Silva, and who could blame him? Franklin is a world class fighter, but in this division at this point in time, he’s a distant, distant No. 2.
