Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir sounds off zee Russian Wrecking Machine:

I don’t have Fedor being in the top… I don’t have him above BJ Penn, St. Pierre.  I think that if all those guys weighed 155 pounds, that Fedor can’t beat BJ, he can’t beat Georges St. Pierre, and that’s what pound for pound means.  It means that if they were exactly the same size.  I think that some people are a little misunderstanding of that whole idea.

As crazy as that sounds, especially after watching Fedor dummy-up UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia in 36 seconds, I tend to agree with him.  I do believe Fedor is the top Heavyweight fighter on the planet though, and thus the toughest fighter, but as Mir correctly points out, if Fedor were to run into a 6′ 0″, 230lb BJ Penn, or a 6′ 0″, 230lb Georges St. Pierre, Fedor would likely lose.

It’s one of those things that can be argued for ages, since there is no way one could actually compare the fighters.  Similar to comparing athletes from different eras.  But since this writer is Canadian, my vote goes to Georges St. Pierre as the top Pound 4 Pound guy.  Penn is #2, Anderson Silva #3, and Fedor 4th.
