Demien Maia wants Michael Bisping

November 18, 2008 By: MMAVu Category: Demian Maia, MMA, Michael Bisping

He’s a stand-up guy, doesn’t like to fight on the ground, but he’s not easy. I always think the same, he’ll try to stand, avoid the ground, and I’ll try to put him down and do my Jiu-Jitsu, trying to submit (him).

Demien Maia tells Brazilian website tatame.com about his desire to fight Michael Bisping. Maia recently made short work of Nate Quarry at UFC 91, choking the TUF alum out in the first round. Bisping also recently competed and came out injury-free against Chris Leben at UFC 89 October 18, but is slated to coach the upcoming season of the Ultimate Fighter, tying him up for the next several months.

I doubt the UFC would let Bisping compete against a relative unknown in Maia, despite him being an awesome and worthy opponent. It’s more likely Bisping will face the opposing coach on the show, Rich Franklin or Dan Henderson, depending on who wins their upcoming bout in Ireland at UFC 93.

Maia is sort of caught in no man’s land: he’s an awesome fighter, but he’s relatively unknown. The UFC would want to build him up some more before letting him take on one of their golden boys.
