UFC 105: Couture vs Vera

September 13, 2009 By: MMAVu Category: UFC 105

The fight card, taking place on November 14 at the Manchester Evening News arena, in, well…Manchester, just got a whole lot more interesting. Word is that Randy Couture is set to take on Brandon Vera, in what has to be considered the main event.

Couture was last seen at UFC 102, losing a decision to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in a hard fought, instant-classic type battle. Vera was on the same card, defeating Krzystzof Soszynski by way of decision. After his loss, Couture hinted at another drop to the 205lb division, where he held the light heavyweight title. This bout could serve as the top condender for the division, as Rampage vs Evans fight will not happen until early next year at the earliest…Evans cannot be pleased.

This fight joins co-main event, Michael Bisping vs Denis Kang, and Dan Hardy vs Dong Hyun Kim in what is shaping up to be a decent card thus far.

UFC 107: Mir vs Kongo

September 11, 2009 By: MMAVu Category: UFC 107

In the wake of Quinton Jackson bolting out of his main event match against Rashad Evans, the UFC has added a solid bout, pitting former interim UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir against Cheik Kongo.

Mir of course, is coming off of a pounding at the hands of Brock Lesnar in July. Mir lost that title unification bout, and has been beefing up his strength, the main factor in his loss, according to Mir.

Kongo was knocking on the door of a title shot before being derailed by Cain Velasquez. With a win over Mir, Kongo would be right back in the mix, after Shane Carwin’s title shot later this fall. This bout will likely serve as the co-main event, along with the main event of BJ Penn taking on Diego Sanchez.

By the way, how does this Jackson fiasco happen by the way? The company spends millions of dollars, months of building the fight, hours of prime time on tv, stage the fight in the guy’s hometown…only to have Jackson pull out with no good reason? Filming the A-Team isn’t a good reason; Jackson is a fighter first. Bad, bad, bad all around.
