TUF 9 Finale: Chris Lytle vs Kevin Burns

May 10, 2009 By: MMAVu Category: Chris Lytle, Kevin Burns, TUF 9 Finale

Another match has been added to the Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale, featuring UFC veteran Chris “Lights Out” Lytle against Kevin “Feel the” Burns.

Lytle is coming off of a slugfest decision loss to Marcus Davis at UFC 93, both former pro boxers. Lytle has a pedestrian 5-9 record in the UFC, but the company loves him, and he usually puts on exciting fights, thus the constant invites to fight.

Burns is also coming off of a loss, to Anthony Johnson in their second encounter. Burns fought Johnson in July 2008 but the fight ended up with an accidental eye-poke by Burns. The referee missed it and awarded the bout to Burns by TKO, but neither party was satisfied with the ruling. Well, I suppose Johnson was more upset about it than “Feel the,” so an immediate rematch was booked at the Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale, where Johnson won by definitive head kick KO.

The TUF 9 Finale looks like this so far:

MAIN CARD

Lightweight finalist No. 1 vs. No. 2
Welterweight finalist No. 1 vs. No. 2
Clay Guida vs. Diego Sanchez
Nate Diaz vs. Joe Stevenson (unconfirmed)
Matt Brown vs. Anthony Johnson (unconfirmed)

UFC 86: Chris Lytel vs Josh Koscheck

April 26, 2008 By: MMAVu Category: UFC 86

“To be honest I think at the beginning he will definitely try and test the waters on his feet, but in my opinion when push comes to shove and things become a little bit harder you tend to fall back to what you know best – in his case that is wrestling. I won’t be too surprised if after a few minutes he decides to try taking me to the ground. It is kind of hard with someone like him that has developed striking – I have to be prepared for that, I don’t want to get caught not giving him the respect he deserves there; but I’m definitely thinking he is going to try to take me down.”

Chris Lytle shares his opinion with Punchdrunkgamer on his upcoming fight with Josh Koscheck. It wouldn’t be very wise for Koscheck to demonstrate his new striking abilities with Lytle, as Lytle has excellent boxing skills and was a former pro boxer. Koscheck will more than likely stand for a few minutes, get clipped, then quickly take Lytle down. Lytle, while competent on the ground, can be neutralized by a good wrestler as he was with Matt Hughes.
